IUI
Artificial insemination of sperm into the uterine cavity, a procedure for treating infertility is Intrauterine insemination (IUI).
Around the time your ovulation, the sperms that have been concentrated and washed are placed directly in your uterus to fertilize the egg. The hope for the outcome of IUI is for the sperm to swim into the fallopian tube and to fertilize an egg that has been waiting there, resulting in a normal pregnancy.
Depending on the reason of your fertility our specialist doctor at Brundavan Women & Child Care centre will coordinate the IUI with normal cycle or fertility medications.
Many factors can be the reason for a couple’s ability to become pregnant. IUI is most often used in couples who have:
- Donor sperm- IUI is most commonly used for women who need to use donor sperm to become pregnant.
- Unexplained infertility- As a first treatment for unexplained infertility. Along with ovulation induction medications IUI is often performed.
- Endometriosis related infertility- Medications to obtain good quality egg along with IUI is often performed to treat infertility related to endometriosis.
- Ovulatory factor infertility- For women who have infertility caused by the problem with ovulation, our doctors may perform IUI
The visit for intrauterine insemination at Brundavan Women & Child Care centre takes upto 15-20 minutes. During the procedure our doctor will insert a speculum into your vagina. The experience will be same as a pap test. Our doctor will then insert a catheter through your cervical opening into your uterus with a sample of healthy sperm. The sperm will be pushed out of the catheter into your uterus.
After your IUI for a brief period you will be asked to lie on your back. You may go back to your normal daily activities and it is normal to experience some light spotting for a day or two.
Before you take a home pregnancy test it is advised by our doctor to wait for two weeks.
Our doctors may ask you to return after two weeks for a blood test, which will give a more accurate result.
